Ganged Switch Symbology

When a switch is used in a circuit, it may contain multiple sets of contacts or smaller internal switches. These internal switches are depicted individually on a schematic. Often, the position of one internal switch affects another, forming what are known as ganged switches. These are represented by a dashed line connecting them. For example, closing Switch 1 might also close Switch 2. Additionally, a dashed line indicates a mechanical interlock between two circuit components, such as two breakers with an interlock between them.
